Hosting an S2x server

Set up a dedicated Multiplayer or Zombies server on Windows using the server files and configs.

Files & setup

Download the dedicated server files with a torrent client and let the download finish. You can also use an existing WWII installation.

Server files (torrent) 17.97 GB (16.7 GiB)

The dedicated files are for hosting only. To join your server, use S2x with the game files for the mode you want to play.

Add the launcher

Keep the dedicated files in their own folder. Download the latest s2x.exe and place it in the root of that folder, alongside the game files.

Download S2x

Add the server configs

The config repository includes settings and launchers for Multiplayer and Zombies. Select Code > Download ZIP and extract the archive.

Get server configs

Copy these into your server folder, beside s2x.exe:

  • !start_mp_server.bat
  • !start_zm_server.bat
  • The entire s2x folder, including its contents.

Server settings

Open the config for the mode you want to host in a text editor:

Multiplayer
s2x/server_mp.cfg
Zombies
s2x/server_zm.cfg

Set your server name, player limit and map rotation, then save the file. Comments in each config explain the available settings and map IDs.

sv_hostname
Name shown in the server browser.
sv_maxplayers
Player limit: up to 18 for Multiplayer or 4 for Zombies.
sv_minplayers
Players needed before the match can start.
sv_maprotation
Maps and game modes to play in order.
SERVER_PORT
UDP port, set in the batch launcher. Use a different port for each server.

For War Mode, use raid with mp_raid_* maps. The mode ID war means Team Deathmatch.

Ports & discovery

Allow s2x.exe through your firewall on the configured UDP port. For internet hosting behind a router, forward that same UDP port to the local IP address of the machine running the server.

Multiplayer
27016 UDP
Zombies
27017 UDP

These are the defaults in the supplied batch launchers. If you change SERVER_PORT, use that port in your firewall and router rules. Select UDP as the protocol.

For a public listing, keep sv_lanOnly at 0 and master_server_enable at 1. Allow outbound UDP to master.s2x.dev:20810.

Starting the server

Run the batch launcher for the mode you configured:

  • Multiplayer: !start_mp_server.bat
  • Zombies: !start_zm_server.bat

Keep the server process running. Allow about a minute for a public server to appear in the in-game browser and the website server list.

Start from the command line

Run the matching command from your server folder. These examples use the default ports and configs:

Multiplayer
s2x.exe -dedicated -multiplayer +set net_port 27016 +exec server_mp.cfg +map_rotate
Zombies
s2x.exe -dedicated +zombiesMode 1 +set net_port 27017 +exec server_zm.cfg +map_rotate

Support & bug reports

If the launcher reports a missing executable or config, check that the batch launcher is beside s2x.exe and the matching config is inside the s2x folder.

For setup help, ask in #help-server on Discord and include the mode, configured port and any error messages. The supplied configs write logs to s2x/logs/console.log.

Check existing reports on GitHub Issues before reporting a confirmed bug or crash. Include the steps to reproduce it, relevant settings and any logs or crash dumps available.
